The dragon boat festival is meaningful for families to gather around wrapping Bak Changs together. Bak Changs were first used in ceremonies to worship ancestors and gods. The Dragon Boat Festival commemorates the death of a famous Chinese poet - Qu Yuan. Qu Yuan could not accept his country's defeat and decided to commit suicide in the Milou River. The villagers jumped into their boats and raced out in search of his body. When they couldn't find his body, they resorted to Bak chang to feed the fishes so that they don't feed on his body.
